Luz M. Carachure

I am a trainer at Sealand. I truly believe that these animals and I have had a real connection. I love them. For that reason, I don’t want to see them get hurt. They are very intelligent animals. I understand that these animals aren’t meant to be captured and kept under a “box”. The thing is that it’s too late now to put them back. The reason I say this is because they are now used to being under our care. our and our environment. I agree that there shouldn’t be anymore animal captivity because it is truly harming them and their families. They are getting forced to be separated away from their families which is a so inhumane. They have and feel all the emotions we feel. Like one of the whale catchers said. It’s like kidnapping a child from their mother. I believe that they need to improve the environment we’re keeping them. Make adjustments that will fit their size and activities.

The paying public should not be exposed to such graphic and distasteful things that happen to the trainers when the animals miss behave. We all should be provided with knowledge of what the whales have gone through and how many people they have killed. These are wild animals that have the potential to kill and should not be treated as house animals that can be taught tricks. If trainers are going to teach them tricks they should be performed behind glass where there is no chance of the trainers being killed or harmed. The amount of therapy that all the children at the show would need after witnessing a killer whale eat some one would be very high and these animals should not be seen at playmates. These are very real wild animals. The well being of the paying publics mental health should be concidered when feeding and interacting with the whales. There have already been several counts of whales killing trainers, not only at sea world but in other places around the world too.

Paying Public by Michael G.

As a paying public of Sea World I feel like the prices are too expensive! I had to pay for my two kids, my wife and myself and the total was $338.68! Still, I had a great time watching the whales flip around and do tricks for us. After watching the movie, I was astonished as to what Sea World has been doing to their whales! Although, my family did have an amazing time there. If I were to give my money back to Sea World, I definitely would.

Donovan Clyne

This is unacceptable for the paying public to see the animals hurting each other and the trainers. Customers do not pay good money to see a man get slaughter by a couple thousand pound animal. I don't want to come to a place where i come with my family and paid good money for to see someone die thats waste of a trip. I understand these trainers don't mean to aggravated the animals. But they need to understand if this couple thousand pound animal can potentially kill you don't work with it. Especially if it has already claimed victims already. And what about the animals they have feelings to. What about sea world are they even paying for the funerals? this is unexceptable and if it happens again i won't ever go to sea world.

The Trainers : Killed,Tricked, and  Deceived

Life as a trainer was fun but  i was risking my life  everyday  and the owners of sea world couldn't so much as to warn me.  Even after some trainers were killed Sea World management tried to blame the dead trainers. How could they do that! They never gave us as much of an apology for years of endangering our lives to benefit their pockets.

Sea World - Nick Richard

As Seaworld we feel that this documentary is a lie and is very degrading towards our company. The accidents that happen were exactly that ACCIDENTS! We feel that it is completely safe for the trainers to be in the water with the whales. The accidents were also the trainers faults they were suppose to do certain things that they didn't do. We understand that It's hard for some of the relatives to deal with the fact that their family members have been hurt or worse. Sea world unfortunately can't do anything about it. As for the whales we would like to put on record that they are kept in a good clean facility. The whales are violent towards each other some times just like in the wild. We can't change the whales instincts. We try to take care of them the best we can. We love the whales and try to take care of our employees and whales as best as we can.

Travis Wallace- Sea World

We would like to remember all of the sea world trainers who have died doing what they love, they were always  great trainers who represented Sea World in the brightest light.

world makes sure that each trainer is trained on how to interact with the whales. We also make sure that the whales spend enough time with the trainers so that they feel comfortable. These whales are treated with tender love and care. They are cared for in the best way possible. Any incidents that have happened in the past have simply been the trainers faults and any trainer that has ever experienced any of these fatal accidents with the whales, would tell you that it was their fault. We are not putting and end to the shows with Tilikum(Orca) or any other whales, but we have added extra safety precautions for the trainers best interested, sadly trainers will no longer have physical contact with the whales in the water but the whales will still perform daily. To the public interested in coming to Sea World to see such an amazing life experience know that these whales are not trained to attack and are truly the gentlest creatures and that is one of the reasons we love having whales a part of sea world.

On behalf of the Trainers at Sea World, I have to say that my trainers are not safe in their working environment that they share with the whales. As the leader of the Trainers besides the love of the animals at Sea World, my main priority is the safety of my trainers. That's all I want. I want both my trainers and animals to be safe and to have a good show for the paying public. Three well trained trainers have lost their lives to one killer whale who the CEO of Sea World refuses to deal with because  of unethical reason. The people in charge of Sea World only have one bottom line, what's making me money, how can I keep making money, and how I can make it faster. The paying public and trainers are kept in the dark about everything that is going on. Sea World giving the media false events of what happen. What we need to do is get the world out to the paying public. Stop them from paying there money to basically keep these kill whales in the water with theses trainers putting them at risk.

Animal Activists (Peer Schaefer)

Seeing the movie Blackfish should move every person! It moved me a lot! To see the horrible facts about the circumstances that orcas are kept in revealed to the public is great and should lead to a change in the attitude to captivity of all larger animals. I think I can speak for every animal loving person when I say that it shouldn't be the way it is and the movie does a great job making it public. The horrible things that lead to the horrible attacks in SeaWorld, SeaLand and other locations should be illegal and punished. The documentation makes a great job showing the things in a rational way and interviews trainers and experts to give the viewers a unique perspective which is highly qualified. The material shown in the film is intense, but it shows what is important. I'm impressed by the way the documentation deals with the issue and appreciate the braveness of the makers who took care of this important topic.
I hope that more people will follow the example of the people who made this great documentation to show the public what is happening in the famous SeaWorld and other amusement parks.

Animal Activists (John Muyres)

After seeing the movie blackfish, it should be clear to everybody that the killer whales are not meant to be held in captivity.  Even if SeaWorld's claims are true and the whales are kept in a safe and healthy environment, the process that they use to capture a  whale is inhumane.  They are often separated from their mothers.  Also, during initial training, the whales are often deprived of food so that they will cooperate.  SeaWorld keeps these whales in small cramped spaces, often isolated from interaction with other whales, or even worse, packed into a space with other whales that will attack it, as was the case with Tilikum sharing the enclosure with the aggressive female whales.  The life expectancy of the whales in captivity is less than half of that of the whales in the wild.  Clearly the conditions that the whales are kept in are not humane and the whales should not have to endure captivity.  The profit of a company should not take priority over the unethical treatment of these great animals.  The capturing and breeding of killer whales for a life of captivity should be halted immediately.

Lorena Jasso

I agree with the director Gabriela. Blackfish have done a lot of harm to humans including death. But is not their fault, blackfish are really emotional, meaning that they have feelings too! Being in a small tank and having to do a lot of tricks, always being told what to do, so they can get food does get frustrating to them. Not only that, but this poor blackfish were taken away from their moms, taken away from their home, their families. In the comments we see people saying that they don’t think this is right the way they treat these whales. Is not fair! Imagine being taken away from your mother at a very young age, getting attack by other whales like Tilikum did. Getting fed only by the good work that you’ve done and living in a really small place. This whales want to be in the ocean where they can explore, hunt, and live. The paying public want to see action get entertain most of all. But if its causing harm to humans, as well as death the public would no longer attend these events. The reason why seaworld didn’t want to get interview is because they didn’t want the public to know about these incidents. Many adults attend to these events with their children, but now knowing about these incidents a lot of the public would stop going. Parents are not going to want to take their children to an entertainment place where they know there could possibly see someone getting killed. Us as the paying public want those whales to be with their families in the ocean, not in small tanks where they are killing humans.

Margot Meisels period 9

When explaining the horror that these orca whales went through, you have to begin through almost birth. These animals were separated at birth from their pack, which is known to be very traumatizing to them because of their extra portion in their brains. They were starved when not preforming to the standards of Sea World & also mistreated before sea world. Tilikum, was abused and raked by other female fish in his tank and was still left to fend for himself having no where to hid from the other whales. When transporting these whales they were in pitch black small tanks where they were put in the dark for days at a time. Imagine being a human being in a cage and dark room not knowing where you are. They also gave whales Loro Parque where they did not have sufficient tanks that were being eaten by the whales getting them vially sick. Having to swim in a tank that is not even 1% of the space they would have had in the wild. These animals are WILD. Not made to be with human beings playing in a tank. They belong in the wild with the rest of their families/species.

Will McGinley period 9

As a trainer, I feel that Sea world is lying to us. They have told us that it is safe for us to get in the water with these whales and that any incidents are rare and most often the trainer's fault. This is simply not true. They are dangerous animals and thankfully other trainers are not allowed in the water with the whales anymore. We trainers just want to know the truth about the whales that we spend all of our days with and take care of. It is unethical for management to keep the truth away from the trainers and have them get into a life threatening situation. Trainers have a passion for the whales. We develop a bond with these animals and want to keep them healthy. If we knew how they were acquired by Sea World, or how our treatment of them actually takes years off of their lives, I guarantee that many of my colleagues would quit. We want good treatment for both us and the whales, and we want Sea World to be honest and respectful with its employees.

Sea World Management Speaks Out About Sea World Trainers; Marcella Reynolds

On February 24, 2010 Dawn Brancheau, a Sea World trainer lost her life in a tragic accident involving one of the parks killer whales. The death of Dawn brought sadness to those closest to her. I’m glad to have known dawn and the wonderful person she was. After Dawn’s death, the story had appeared on many social media websites, articles, and magazines. It is now featured in the new film tilted Black Fish. The film shows graphic detail about Dawn’s death and other trainers. The new documentary only highlights the tragic incidents that have happened at Sea World over the years. The film never mentions any of the great things Sea World has done.  We have taken good care of the whales despite what the film said, we rescue millions of ill, orphaned and injured animals, we donate millions of dollars to support conversation and research, and we also inspire people that come to watch our shows. Sea World has had tragic incidents happen, but the good of Sea World outweighs the bad. After the death of Dawn we were aware that we needed to make some changes and decided to take the steps to make these changes. We have changed the way we train the animals, the whales are in a better environment, and we also make sure the whales and the trainers are safe.  We decided to make these changes, because we want to be sure that we never hear another tragic story about a Sea World trainer and we also want to let everyone know that the safety of the whales, trainers, staff, and guest is very important to us.

Paying Public Alex Matzig

As the paying public i think i can speak for us all when i say that Sea World must take responsibility and keep their employees and whales safe so that we can take our families and enjoy the park. I'm not the biggest animal activist around however i have a heart and what Sea World is doing to their whales is cruel and inhumane. Like much of the public, i'm willing to spend the money to take my family to Sea World but after hearing about the awful mistreatment of whales and harsh working environment for employees, i would be in constant fear that something would go wrong and my family would experience a traumatic event. Furthermore, as the paying public we need to drive Sea World to change their protocol by boycotting Sea World. It shouldn't be the responsibility of the public to make protocol ethically right however Sea World's crimes against animals and their employees isn't getting any better on their watch and it has been going on long enough. Until Sea World changes their protocol i think it would be ethically immoral for the paying public to enable Sea World by paying the high prices to get admission.
